With the upcoming World Cup approaching fast and the anticipation is building and fan are clinging on to what team their team plays first.  The World Cup consists of 32 teams, that qualified through “mini” tournaments or group stages; to qualify each group played each other twice, the teams with the best records made it into the World Cup.. These 32 teams come from 6 leagues; AFC, CAF, CONCACAF,CONMEBOL,OFC and UEFA.

The AFC qualifiers are-  Australia, Japan Korea DPR and Korea Republic

The  CAF qualifiers are- Algeria Cameroon Côte d’Ivoire Ghana Nigeria and  South Africa (host)

The CONCACAF qualifiers are-   Honduras Mexico and  United States

The CONMEBOL qualifiers are-  Argentina Brazil Chile Paraguay and  Uruguay

The OFC qualifiers are- New Zealand

The UEFA qualifiers are- Denmark England France Germany Greece Italy Netherlands Portugal Serbia Slovakia Slovenia Spain and  Switzerland

With the group stage complete the World Cup produced the 2010 World Cup Groups, which is through a draw. Yes, they literally draw the groups out of hats!-

The Month Heard Around the World

From June 11 to July 11, many soccer fans around the world will being holding their breaths for 90 minutes and having many celebrations and disappointments. The  19th FIFA World Cup draws a large range audience for just one month every 4 years. Memories are made in these months and careers are shattered or built up high. From David Beckham’s 1998 World Cup career shattering match to this Cup’s handball goal in a qualifying match; history is made.

South Africa will be the home to the 2010 World Cup, a high-stakes elite soccer tournament of the World’s countries. But getting into the tournament is not a walk in the park, the qualification process started back in August 2007. With a similar set up as the Olympics, the World Cup is not a free ride, countries have to compete in a preliminary tournament to get into the World Cup.

With the date of the first game quickly approaching, fans are dusting off their jerseys and hitting the local pubs to rout on their teams to victory.
